Organic farming helps agriculture to be sustainable by reducing the cost as well as improving the soil health. As we know that insects create the biological foundation for all terrestrial ecosystems. They cycle nutrients, pollinate plants, disperse seeds, maintain soil structure and fertility, control populations of other organisms and provide a major food source for other taxa. This book contains various chapters on different roles of insects in organic farming which will be very helpful for graduate and post graduate students in Entomology and also to the students from other department as well as to the farming community.
Dr. Prarthna Rajkumari is currently serving as Assistant Professor, Department of Entomology in Biswanath College of Agriculture, Assam Agricultural University, Assam, India. She did her Post graduation and Ph.D. in Entomology from Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat, Assam. With more than five years of teaching experience Dr. Prarthna is presently guiding two P.G. students as well. She has published 12 research papers in national and international journals and 2 book chapters. She was also awarded with Prof. Md. Sharifullah Memorial Gold Medal for securing the highest Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) in the M.Sc. (Agri) degree programme in the Department of Entomology, Assam Agricultural University in the year 2011.
Dr. Ratna Kalita is presently working as an Assistant professor at, Department of Agricultural Biotechnology, Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat, Assam, India. She did her Ph.D. from Assam Agricultural University. Her areas of specialization are Genome editing, Functional Genomics, Climate resilient agriculture, and Bioinformatics. Dr. Kalita has seven years of teaching and more than 12 years of research experience. She has published her research works in peer-reviewed national and international journals. She has received Travel Grant for attending International training under the AdaptNET project of ERASMUS+ funded by the European Commission at UMIL, Italy; UNIVPM, Ancona Italy; and Costa Navarino, Greece in 2020. She has been awarded best oral presenter at the National seminars and workshops.
Th. Aruna Singha is currently serving as Assistant Professor, Department of Sericulture, Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat since 2014. She did her Post graduation in Sericulture from Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat, Assam. Presently her pursuing Ph.D degree in Entomology from Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat on the nutritional profiling of Silkworms. She has more than eight years of teaching experience and also trainings and demonstration experiences with sericulture farmers. She has more than 20 published research papers and popular article in National and international Journals. The author has also been nominated as reviewer and editor in many journals and e-magazine.
